Wherein Maelynn Shares A Favorite Hymn!

July 3, 2017

This week was so much better than the last few. Not necessarily because my surroundings have changed (they haven't, same area, same comp) but because my attitude has changed. I realized that I am actually a super judgemental person...oops.  So I have been working on loving more than judging, and its working miracles :)

A couple of miracles we saw this week:
Last week we got a referral of a guy named Evencio from some other Hermanas in a different zone. A few days later we got a referral of a girl named Maribel from our zone leaders. So we got a hold of Maribel and set up an appointment. When we went to visit her, she introduced us to her husband, Evencio.  No joke.  Turns out that she is a member, was baptized in Utah like 10 years ago, moved back here 5 years ago, and hasn't been to church since.  Her husband Evencio isn't a member and was telling her "you lied to me,  you told me you're Mormon, but you never go to church".  So she was like "you're right, let's go".  Any ways, hes super golden, basically asked to be baptized.  The whole time we were visiting him I was just thinking, 'this is tooo perfect - there's got to be something'.  Well towards the end of our visit we found out that they're not married, and he's not divorced from his previous spouse.  Ugh, this is seriously the most common problem we run into down here, and its super difficult to get divorced here in Mexico.  But with the help of the Lord, all will be well!!

Then we were supposed to have a baptism this weekend of a lady named Sol and her daughter Naomi.  Basically everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.  Her military ex-husband came into town and she had to basically go into lock down in her house for a few days (long story).  Her and her 2 daughters got sick the day before.  Saturday morning we went to pick them up and she told us she wasn't going to get baptized any more but we could take her daughter.  Anyways, after a little while she calmed down, and we went to the church.  We don't have keys, but we had been at the church just a couple hours earlier for Ward Council, so we assumed someone would still be there.  Of course not.  The church was all locked up, nobody was answering their phones.  Half an hour after it should have started and there were about 3 other people there.  Still waiting for keys.  We ended up having to call some Elders to come help us because there were only 2 priesthood holders there.  Anyways, it ended up being a super beautiful baptism. And something super neat is that the guy that baptized them, Will, is one of Hermana Torgerson's converts.  He just got baptized in February! And even though there were a lot of struggles, all was well.  Until Sunday when they didn't show up to church, because it turns out that Naomi got super sick.
Something that I have seen a lot as a missionary is that the times when people are trying to come closer to Christ, align their lives more with Him, is when the adversary throws everything he's got at them. The times that we are trying to change and become better, is exactly when Satan tells us that we can't...and he does everything he can to make sure we don't. BUT the Savior knows us better than Satan does and even better than we know ourselves, and if we rely 100% on Him, we will be able to conquer the adversary.   Haha sounds easy right?

A hymn that I have really come to love in the mission is Lead Kindly Light. ..but it's better in Spanish :) Divina Luz.

What a beautiful message, that we don't need to know everything, we only need to trust the He knows everything.

Sending my love from Mexico,
Hermana Bailey
