Wherein Seth and friends consume 80 chicken nuggets!!

Many miracles and adventures await. The sun, down here, has only gotten hotter and shined brighter to the point where now we are chilling at about 100° on a daily. That makes biking a pain but oh well. This week nothing too out of the ordinary happened. We taught our friend Ibrahim a lot and he is progressing toward his baptism very well. On Thursday while on exchanges with Hondo Pass we ordered 80 chicken nuggets at Burger King and pounded those right down. We're opened up to stage three now and that means we're allowed to go knock on the door of anyone that has had previous contact with the missionaries and their address is recorded. So we dropped by the house of this lady Friday night at like 8:45. We were a long ways away from home and really just planning on setting up a lesson for another day, when to our surprise instead of a little old Latina, our soon to be friend, Avonn came to the door. He recognized us as the mormons and mentioned that we were up and going real early cause the sun had yet to dawn (we had awakened him from his slumber and he figured it was already morning) he then noticed the guitar I had on my back and being a musician himself invited us in to jam with him for a bit. That is what we did, played, sang, and talked. He's been through a lot, his wife recently passed away and he's living a very lonely life trying to find solace in drugs and alcohol. It was a true blessing being able to teach him about how our families can be together forever through Gods plan and bring a little light into his life.

Wherein Seth Reminds Us That We Can ALWAYS Learn From Others.

       Heyo! That trip to NYC sounds flipping awesome! This week I got to go on lots of exchanges with different Elders in the district. All were wonderful experiences and I learned tons from everybody. More than anything I learned that no matter who you're around, they've got something that you can learn. Something that can help you grow. There are some people that look for those opportunities to grow and learn and others that don't. 

        One of my favorite scripture stories is that of Nephi breaking his bow and his whole family complaining about it. I think it was Elder Holland who said, "there is no situation bad enough that complaining won't make it worse" and that's how it was with this family. Complaining and murmuring galore. Then Nephi finds a solution to their problems and makes himself a bow to go hunt for food. And then in what I see as one of the biggest acts of love and humility Nephi went and asked his murmuring father for direction. Instead of telling his father off and letting him know of the terrible example he was leaving his children, Nephi asked him for help. He gave him a chance to repent. And the father listened. 

        Oftentimes people that presume an authority of sorts tend to look down on others and aren't very receptive to counsel (especially when hungry) but that wasn't the case here. So that's what's been going on this week with my new companion. He knows many things and it's been a wonderful adventure learning from him. So yeah, always look out for opportunities to learn from those around you. 

We also did a lot of service at the BMX track this week. We're preparing it for a state race on Saturday which should be super awesome!

Wherein Seth Shares a Testimony on FaceBook

 Something that I really love as I read and ponder upon the Scriptures is the all-inclusiveness of the Savior and His Gospel. Often times He is portrayed with his arms outstretched and full of love. He didn't come to this earth just to save a select few of us, but everyone.

No matter who you are, where you're from or the language you speak, Jesus invites you to come unto Him and change for the better.

"He inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." 2 Nephi 26:33

Dear Brother and Sister Bailey:

 

I would like you to know how much Sister Weathersby and I have grown to love your son.  He has exemplified great leadership abilities in his missionary work.  In view of this, we have called Elder Bailey to serve in the leadership position of District Leader.

 

I have great confidence in his ability to serve in this capacity.  He is compassionate, dependable, obedient, respectful, kind, and loves the people here in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission, along with his fellow missionaries.  Elder Bailey has a strong relationship with his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, which entitles him to receive personal revelation from the Lord appropriate to his calling.  He will gain the confidence and support of those he serves.

Wherein Seth Grooms a Dog!

Bom dia mamãe!

So this week was pretty darn cool. Last Sunday we were over at the house of a member (Hno Cervantes) who hasn't come to church in a fat minute and noticed that his dog was pretty miserably hot cause it had a full coat of hair and hadn't been groomed in a while. (turned out to be a little over a year) So I, thinking that dog hair is just like human hair, offered to come over and give her a nice trim. Saturday came around and we did just that. Turns out that it is a lot different than cutting human hair but by the grace of God or some miracle the hair was cut and it didn't look too bad. I did grow however a lot of respect for those that do that for a living.

Anyway, from that little act of service came lots of little miracles. While we were there his neighbor came over and started talking to us and turns out he's been looking for a church to attend and someone to study the Bible with. Hno Cervantes joined the Come Follow Me lesson yesterday after church. And he gave us a ride home in his truck cause we got a couple flat tires and a broken crank rod on the way there.

Yesterday our friend Jazmine showed up at church again. Which was Low-key unexpected cause we weren't in communication with her all week, but she really liked it and now we're trying to set our ward mission leader up with her but alas, he's scared 

We got transfer news and here we will stay as a trio for another transfer. Nothing really changed so that's chill.

Wherein Seth Explains A Wicked Dude's Demise.

Hola mamá! Thanks for the update on the Family! This week went well. Lots of meetings and service. Nothing super out of the ordinary though. This last week in our companion study we read the first chapter of Alma and quite a bit stuck out to me. First of all, Nehor is quite the dude. And the lies he gave were pretty cunning. what I find interesting is when he came face to face with a man of God, and was reproved for his lies, he flipped out and killed Gideon. That reminds me so much of Proverbs 13:18 where it says "Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honored." Not only did Nehor miss out on the Honor of changing and repenting, but received an ignominious death. I don't know what ignominious means, but it sounds pretty awful. Which makes sense. Death for the righteous is but a step forward into the eternities, but death for the wicked is an awful fear. For the way of the transgressor is hard. (Proverbs 13:15) there are so many reasons we should be righteous. And if anything, the price to pay for being unrighteous is enough reason for me to avoid that. Stay good. And don't kill the prophets.

Wherein Seth Hits A Homerun For His New Year's Message!

January 4, 2021  

     This week was pretty crayzay. But also super awesome. Last Monday we met this dude named Efren. Turns out he has been prepared by the lord to receive the message of the Gospel. So we have been teaching him and he's been reading and praying and all sorts of exciting progress is being made and I'm super happy for him. So big thanks for all the prayers. On the flip side of things, a dear friend of ours, Collier, is sick in the hospital with Covid so plz pray for him. 

      This week has been super fun with a lot of time to study and read cause we couldn't proselyte on the first. I've been reading a lot lately in the book of Mosiah and the story of the Zeniffs people. And boy is there a lot of crud that goes down. 

      Kinda the same throughout the entire book of Mormon. War and peace and turmoil and hate and love and all sorts of back and forth. But I came to think, why did Zeniff and those people go back? They had made it out of the reach of their enemies and into the beautiful land of Zarahemla. Why did they waltz straight back into enemy territory where all this sadness and destruction fell upon them, where generation after generation was slain by the sword at the hand of their enemies where the prophets were burned and wickedness reigned strong? And honestly, I have no idea. But I think it is very relatable to the story of Lots wife. She'd made it out, but longed for the past and looked back at what she was leaving. Then she got pretty salty. 

      So I think the Lord was trying to teach us something. That there is a reason for all the change that He's brought forth in our lives. When He asks us to change, it's for the better. We should always remember the past and all we learned but should never reflect back, longing for a world we've left behind; wanting to have not repented and changed.  We're here in this life to be molded and refined by life's fire and it's kinda super hard to avoid the flames so try not to resist them. 

      Great changes have been made this last year, and with the new year ahead I fear many will try to get rid of some of the wonderful changes that have been made by the world and live like its 2019. Miraculous things have happened! The family unit has grown tighter. Care and concern for others has increased. Selfless service abounds and time has been taken to love the Lord, pray and ponder about life. People have come to realize how important God is in their everyday lives and learned how to turn to Him more than just in moments of need.

     These things we shouldn't do away with for they were divinely given. As the new year starts, think back on all the change that has been made and keep changing. Don't go looking for all the bumps that have been polished off but shine brightly and share the love of Christ.

My love goes out to all as this new year, full of pain sorrow peace, and joy beyond compare begins.
